Denton Record-Chronicle has partnered with First State Bank to provide In-Person submission services at any Denton County First State Bank location during bank hours. DRC is solely responsible for online submissions only. Finalists will be displayed at First State Bank locations, and the Awards reception will take place at the Downtown Denton First State Bank. (See bank location and date information below).
I. CONTEST DIVISIONS
Student Division: For anyone 17 years of age and younger on October 15th, 2012. For print media entries, the Entry Fee is $20 for the 1st submitted image, $10 for the 2nd and $3 for each additional image. For online entries the fee is $10 per photo.
Adult Division: For anyone 18 years of age and older on October 15th, 2012. For print media the Entry Fee is $25 for 1st submitted image, $15 for the 2nd and $5 per each additional image. For online entries the fee is $10 per photo.
**Both amateurs and professionals are encouraged to enter.
Entry Fee Payments
All net proceeds benefit the United Way of Denton County. Cash or checks are accepted for the People, Places, and Nature Categories ONLY. Please, make checks payable to: “First State Bank.”
All major credit cards are accepted for the United Way Category online submissions ONLY.
II. CONTEST CATEGORIES
Please note! The People, Places, and Nature categories are for print media submissions ONLY (mailed or delivered to First State Bank) and the United Way category is by online submission ONLY, submitted through the photo contest link on the Denton Record-Chronicle website, www.dentonrc.com/contests.
A. PEOPLE: This category shows people in all walks of life. May include but not limited to: kids and family, sports, portraits/models, etc. Print media only
B. PLACES: These images express a sense of place. May include but not limited to: travel/vacation photography, seascapes, cityscapes, landscapes, buildings, nature images, etc. Print media only
C. NATURE: This category showcases nature images, animals and plant life. May include but not limited to: outdoor scenery, landscapes, plants/flowers, wildlife, pets, insects, etc. Print media only
D. UNITED WAY: A HELPING HAND IN THE COMMUNITY: Images convey a sense of community and/or United Way’s goals of (I) Improving Education, (II) Creating Financial Stability and/or (III) Promoting Healthy Lives. Online submissions only
Note: It is the responsibility of the photographer to read the category descriptions and choose the appropriate category for the image. The image may fit multiple categories and the photographer’s selection is final.
III. SCHEDULE
Online Submissions: For the United Way category, digital photos must be submitted through the Denton Record Chronicle website, www.dentonrc.com/contests. Entries accepted online through October 27th.
In-Person Submissions: For the People, Places, and Nature categories, photos may be submitted at one of First State Bank’s three Denton branch locations, please submit inside branch lobby:
- Downtown Denton: 400 W. Oak Street
- Rayzor Ranch: 2430 W. University Drive
- Denton South: 3190 Teasley Lane

Saturday in-person entries will be accepted at the Downtown Branch ONLY.

Judging
Week of October 29th
Independent judges will consider each photo on the basis of creativity and photographic quality. This is a blind judging contest and the decisions of the judges are final.
Awards
Awards will be given for one Grand Prize winner per division and each image that places 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each division category.
-Grand Prize winners will each receive a cash award of $150
-1st Place winners for each division category will receive a cash award of $50
-2nd and 3rd Place winners for each division category will receive honorable mention ribbons.
Awards Reception
Awards will be presented on November 5th from 5pm-6pm at First State Bank’s Downtown Denton lobby. The Awards Reception will be open to all contest competitors and their families.
Rotating Photo Exhibit at ALL Denton branches:
Due to limitations in space, not all entries will be selected for the rotating branch display. Images that receive a placing of Grand Prize, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd will be featured.

IV. RULES FOR PREPARING AND SUBMITTING PHOTOGRAPHS
Criteria for Online Submissions
(United Way Category ONLY)
All digital files must be 5 megabytes or smaller, must be in JPEG or JPG format, and must be at least 1600 pixels per side (if a horizontal image) or 1600 pixels tall (if a vertical image).
Preparing Print Photos
Any color or black-and-white print up to 11x14 inches is acceptable. The image may be in any aspect ratio that fits within these dimensions.
All prints must be mounted on white 11 x 14 mounting boards. Prints must be securely mounted with EXTRA STRENGTH double sided tape.
Do not use an overmatte. Do not add names or text on the front of the photo or mounting board. Do not submit any images with branding or watermarks.
All entries must be accompanied with a fully completed and signed Entry Form. The Image Label from the Entry Form must be securely attached to each individual photo submission in the BACK UPPER LEFT HAND CORNER of the mounting board.
Picking up Submitted Photos
Images may be picked up at First State Bank’s Downtown Denton branch, 400 W. Oak Street.

Friday 9am to 6pm
Saturday 9am to 11am
Images left after December 8th will become property of First State Bank. While FSB will make every attempt to oversee the pick-up process, we are not liable for lost or damaged photos or awards.
